Your new company You will be working for a statutory harbour authority that has responsibility for ongoing management and safety of ports across the south. Your new role Hays are looking for a highly motivated, active and proficient person. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all health & safety and environmental protocols within the port across maintenance, operational and construction activities, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards and assisting in working towards decarbonisation/net-zero. The successful candidate will be expected to work well in a multi-functional team and will be required to carry out other duties associated with a busy working port.Key Responsibilities:• Develop, implement, and maintain safety, health and environmental policies and procedures.• Conduct regular risk assessments and audits and chair H&S committee meetings.• Make monthly written reports for the Board of Directors.• Regularly review and ensure compliance with safety management systems.• Provide training and awareness programs to employees regarding health, safety and environmental protocols.• Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses; and implement corrective actions.• Liaise with regulatory and industry bodies and ensure all statutory provisions are met.• Liaise with employees, subcontractors and suppliers on Health & Safety matters.• Review the production of third-party risk assessments/method statements, approve Permits to Work and advise on health and safety matters.• Promote a strong culture of safety and wellbeing throughout the port, monitor and report.• Be a proactive member of the management team.• Assist the team in working towards net-zero/decarbonisation.• Act as fire warden, carry out fire risk assessments, advise on fire safety etc.• Oversee training and qualification of all staff ensuring that records are kept updated.• Assisting with the day-to-day management of port operations.What you'll need to succeed The successful candidate will have:• NEBOSH General Certificate in Health & Safety or equivalent qualification• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices• Working knowledge of CDM Regulations• Excellent communication, leadership and IT skills• Full Driving LicenceWhat you'll get in return In return, you will receive a wide range of generous company benefits.What you need to do now If you're interested in this role, click 'apply now' to forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, or call us now.
